KABUL (Pajhwok): An Afghan doctor, Abdul Latif Stanikzai, has grabbed second place in the Australia Medical Council (AMC) examination.

Dr Abdul Latif Stanikzai, a specialist in the surgery department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he participated in the AMC examination in April this year.

The AMC Clinical Examination assesses clinical skills in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry. It also assesses the ability to communicate with patients, their families and other health workers.

Stanikzai said he gained second spot in Australia and first in Melbourne City and received an award as well.

According to him, after passing this exam, he has now got a work permit and is able to work in Australia.

“I struggled and worked day and night after months of studying and finally passed this difficult test,” Dr Stanikzai added.

Dr Stanikzai, who was born in 1982 in Niazi village in the capital of Logar, says that he completed his school in the village and found his way to the medical faculty of Kabul Medical University in 1379. At the same time, he was in an emergency hospital in Kabul.

He worked as a nurse, assistant surgeon in the Emergency hospital and a specialist in general surgery at Istiqlal hospital in Kabul.

After falling ill in 2015, Stanikzai went to Indonesia and from there reached Australia in October of the same year.
