Samangan: 2 coalminers die of CO2 asphyxiation

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Two coal miners have died of carbon monoxide suffocation and tens others fallen unconscious inside a coalmine in the Dara-i-Suf Bala district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Wednesday.

District Chief Mohammad Nasim Khabir told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened on Tuesday night in the Marg Dahana area inside the mine's coal excavation corridor.

He said two miners died in the incident.

But Syed Usman Hameed, deputy head of the Provincial Hospital, said due to the spread of Carbon Monoxide gas inside the mine two coalminers died and 35 others fell unconscious.

He said the injured were in stable condition and stressed unprofessional excavation of coal often resulted in such incidents.
