HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A fire broke out in the Qasar market, a largest cloths selling center, in western Herat province and efforts are underway to put out the blaze.

Rafiullah Noori, one of the garment shopkeepers in Herat city, said that the fire broke out last night possibly due to an electronic short circuit.

According to him, millions of afghanis have been invested in the market and the government should increase its efforts to extinguish the fire.

Meanwhile, Maulvi Nisar Ahmad Elyas, the governor’s spokesman, said the fire broke out at around 2:30am Saturday.

He added an electric short circuit caused the fire and the Herat fire department was informed an hour later.

He added that fire fighters team in cooperation with the 207th Al-Farooq Army Corps, police headquarters and the municipal administratio under the leadership of the governor were trying to control the fire.
