PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least 200 children have been infected with diarrhea and one of the children lost his life to the disease in central Logar province last week, an official said on Sunday.
Safiullah Sulaimankhel, an official of the public health department, told Pajhwok Afghan News 200 children infected with infectious diseases had been brought to the provincial hospital for treatment in the past one week.
He said: “Awe the weather is getting warm, the number of children suffering diarrhea has been increased by 30 percent.
He urged families to pay serious attention to cleanliness so that children did not get infected with such diseases.
Sherbaz, a resident of the Altamor area of Pul-i-Alam city, told Pajhwok that hundreds of children in the province have been infected with diarrhea due to the warm weather.
“Three children of mine have been infected with diarrhea and are currently under treatment at the provincial hospital. We requested the government to increase facilities for treating patients in hospitals,” he added.
Atal Wazir, a resident of Baraki Barak district of Logar, told Pajhwok that children in many houses were infected with this disease and hundreds of them were admitted to hospital.
Fahimullah Lodin, a spokesman for the public health department, told Pajhwok the incidence of diarrhea among children surged by 30 percent compared to the last three months.
He said efforts were being made to provide necessary facilities for the children suffering from diarrhea in hospitals.
He added the families of sick children should also take into account the health guidelines seriously.
