GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of Giro district of southern Ghazni province say there is no school in Desi and Badi areas of the district.

Desi and Badi areas are vast areas of Giro district where about 5,000 families live and children of these families are deprived from the blessing of education.

Haji Zalmai, a tribal elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had many times tried to build a school in these areas during the past two decades, but due to the wars and insecurity, they failed to reach their goal.

Haji Zalmai was concerned about the future of their children, saying if they grew up illiterate, their future will be dark.

Sayed Alam, another tribal elder, told Pajhwok that all residents were enthusiastic to send their children to school, so the government must pay attention to this issue.

Mullah Rahmatullah, a religious scholar, told Pajhwok no practical step had been taken to build schools in Desi and Dadi areas since decades. He said it was the responsibility of the government to provide education to children of these areas.

Meanwhile, some children said they were interested in education if schools were built in their areas. They said they wanted to become doctors and engineers in the future.

The children asked the authorities concerned to build schools for them and not leave them in the lurch.

Provincial Education Department officials say the lack of school buildings, books and professional teachers are common in majority of the provinces.

Maulavi Mir Sayed Nasir Ahmad Hussaini, the Education Department head, told Pajhwok: “The people of Desi area are deprived of education and the reason was the past wars and negligence of the previous government”.

According to Hussaini, a girls’ primary school has been approved by the government. He said the new school will be named BiBi Amina School.

He promised to share the problems and demands of the people of Desi and Badi areas with the central government.
