JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two people died and 168 others sustained injuries in separate traffic accidents during the three days of Eidul Adha in eastern Nangarhar province, public health officials say.
The injured have been transferred to Jalalabad Regional Hospital, Fatima Al-Zahra Provincial Hospital and district hospitals.
Naqibullah Rahimi, Nangarhar Public Health Department spokesman, told Pajhwok on Saturday that 170 people were injured in traffic accidents in different areas during the three days of Eidul Adha and transferred to hospitals.
He added that two of the injured succumbed to their severe injuries, but some others were discharged after treatment. He said most of the injured were teenagers who met accidents due to carelessness.
Nangarhar residents say traffic accidents result from speeding during Eid.
Najibullah, a resident of Jalalabad city, told Pajhwok young people recklessly drove vehicles during Eid holidays and as a result they were prone to accidents.
He urged families and related officials not to allow anyone to drive a car without a license.
In the last three months, about 1,600 people died in various traffic accidents in Afghanistan.
