KABUL (Pajhwok): Following the closure of beauty salons in the country, UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous says the future of Afghanistan must include females.
Bahous tweeted: “The closure of beauty salons in Afghanistan is yet another blow to women´s rights and a further attempt at removing them from public life. The future of #Afghanistan must include women.”
The Ministry of Vice and Virtue says the operations of women’s beauty salons would be banned after July 25 in line with a verbal decree from the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate.
Mohammad Sadiq Akif, spokesman for the ministry, explained in a video clip reasons for the closure of beauty salons and slammed their activities as un-Islamic.
He cited three reasons for the decision (charging high makeup frees, planting one person’s hair on another and shaping eyebrows).
The spokesman said plucking eyebrows and planting one’s hair on another was against Islamic Sharia.
