‘Environment protection requires collective efforts’

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Some people and government officials in northwestern Badghis province have stressed over the protection of environment and called for collective efforts in this regard.

Air pollution was on the raise with each passing day in Badghis province and local residents called for a collective effort to deal with the challenge.

The role of masses was considered vital in protection the environment and controlling the growing air pollution and their cooperation was urged.

Ferdos, a local resident, said currently most people were not serious about environmental protection, they never took care of hygiene and left their garbage opened in every place.

He said environmental protection was vital for health and it protected people from different type of viruses and viral diseases.

Mohammad Anwar, another resident of Badghis said all people should work hard to protect the environment, adding that the lack of attention towards environment could result in the outbreak of infection and diseases.

Mohammad Nasim Hamidi, a civil society activist, said in every society people could play vital role in the protection of environment.

He said in case people ignore the environment air pollution would increase and the city would be converted to a garbage basin.

He stressed all citizen should play their role in the protection of environment.

Mohammad Jummah Pahlaw, the acting head of the Environmental Protection Department, said they made all efforts to ensure the protection of environment but the lack of cooperation from public made their activities less successful.

He said efforts would be made in the future to ensure environmental protection but still public cooperation was vital to produce result.

He asked the people of Badghis to cooperation with them and make sure the environment is protected and air pollution is controlled.
