GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A young man in the Deh Yak district of southern Ghazni province made commitment to build a primary school building in his locality with his own budget.
Qudratullah Malang, 33, said: “I succeeded to establish this primary school in 2019 with my personnel efforts, but now I want to build a building for this school on my own land.
Malang while talking to Pajhwok Afghan News said: “While I was travelling from my village to Ghazni city four years ago, I saw no school in these villages for the children to study”.
He said: “When I watched children in areas from our village till Ghazni City, they were all in terrible condition, they were playing in dust, held gray faces, some were engaged in dog fighting and wasteful activities.”
So I decided to work for establishing a primary school and get the approval of the provincial Education Department, although we faced many problems but we remain committed to build the school, we succeeded to get the approval for establishing of the school, he said.
After this successful move, the students of this school were able to study under the open sky or tents. “In order to resolve the problem, I decided to build building for the school.
Malang said: “Our school was inaugurated but it had no building, there was no shelter for the students we continue our efforts to solve the remaining problems as well”.
He said: “I granted my own land for the building of the school, the school’s one story building will be made of mud, there will be 7 classrooms and a room for administration, currently 220 girls and 420 boys study in this school, the total cost of the building is still unknown”.
He added, we sought the assistance of the government, individuals and other humanitarian organizations, no one gave us any assistance while the humanitarian assistance organizations are also declining day by day.
“Despite financial burden of the school on my shoulders, I had no option but to provide land for the school building as well.” he said.
He further added, the shortages of water, lack of surrounding wall for the school, educational materials and shortage of teachers are other problems that the school had been facing. People asked the Education Department to provide support in this regard.
Bakht Mohammad is another youth of the same district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the commitment Qudratullah Malang encouraged us to support him and stand with him side by side and work.
Bakht Mohammad called on other youth of this area to unite their hands with them for building the school.
The provincial officials thanked the youth for their efforts for building the school for their children.
Mir Sayed Nasir Ahmad Agha, the acting director of provincial Education Department, while expressing his views on the volunteer school building construction asked other residents of this district to follow the footsteps of Janabad area youth and facilitate their children get education.
He added majority of schools in Deh Yak district sans standard buildings and their students are facing different problems.
Agha said he will do everything possible in the limits of available resources with him to support education sector.
Despite deteriorating economic situation in the country, reports regarding the construction of school building at private expenses had surged.
