KABUL (Pajhwok): The interim Afghan government has renewed its call for the lifting of sanctions, including a travel ban on more than a dozen IEA leaders.

The Islamic Emirate’s chief spokesman argued the removal of travel restrictions on Taliban leaders was necessity for improved engagement with the global fraternity.

TOLOnews quoted Zabihullah Mujahid as saying the travel ban on Islamic Emirate’s figures was in no one’s interest.

With 15 officials barred from travelling abroad, he questioned the extension of the curbs. He believed such visits were needed for engagement with the world and Afghanistan’s development.

In the wake of the Taliban’s takeover in 2021, Afghanistan central bank’s assets amounting to over $9 billion were frozen by the US and European governments.

According to the Ministry of Economy (MoE), international sanctions are hurting the people of Afghanistan.

Deputy Minister of Economy Abdul Latif Nazari alleged pressure tactics and sanctions by some countries were taking a toll on the common people.
