Rival families end 30-year-old enmity in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Two families reconciled and ended their 30 years old enmity after mediation of tribal elders in northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

Maulvi Ghulam Nabi Samim, head of the borders and tribal affairs, said the families of Dr. Zahoor and Haji Osman reconciled as a result of continuous meetings of tribal elders.

He said: “These gatherings of tribal elders had been useful and both sides agreed today to end their conflict.”

“Enmity and war are not the solution and our people had been through the bitter results of hostilities and endured sufferings during the last forty years,” he added.

According to him, every citizen has the duty to act as a mediator in such conflicts between people, neighbors and society and to try to bring peace.

“All of us have duty to eliminate enmities between families and relatives and follow the guidance of elders,” he added.

Dr. Zahoor, one of the reconciling sides, said: “30 years ago, a verbal argument took place between our families, which led to violence and during this period fifty people from both families were killed and injured.”

He added: “Several armed conflicts took between our families and local people always suffered and they were in agony because of this problem.”

He was happy that the decades-old enmity between the two families came to an end and said: “Today, I am extremely happy that reconciliation reached between our families with the help of elders”

A number of ethnic elders and religious scholars appreciated the efforts of Jawzjan officials to establish peace and end enmity between the two families in Aqcheh district and emphasized on continuation of such efforts.

In the end, both families signed a document and pledged to live in an atmosphere of peace, reconciliation and brotherhood and will not harm each other.
