GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Heavy rainfall and flash floods over the past two days inflicted financial losses on common people in three districts of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.
Nisar Ahmad Nijat, director Natural Disaster Management Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News, most of the floods occurred in Jani Khel, Wazi Zadran and Zurmat districts of this province.
He said total 20 houses, a religious seminary and a school building had been destroyed by floods while eight more houses and 10 shops had partial damaged.
He urged the humanitarian organizations to provide the victims of the floods with humanitarian assistance.
Engineer Azizullah, an official of agricultural propagation office in provincial agriculture department said, 215 hectares agriculture land was also destroyed by the floods in Lajha Mangal, Zurmat and Wazi Zadran districts.
Survey teams have been dispatched to the floods affected areas to assess the actual amount of losses, he said.
Floods victims have also asked the government and other humanitarian institutions for assistance.
Noor Wali, the resident of Lajha Mangal district told Pajhwok Afghan News the floods caused a lot of financial losses in their areas, the government must provide assistance to affected people.
He said, the residents of the affected areas are very poor, so the government must provide them assistance keeping in consideration the losses they suffered.
According to the facts and figures of the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management, 151 people have been killed and 225 others injured due to natural disasters nationwide so far this year. In addition, 2,162 houses were also damaged during the period.
