KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has rejected an influential US lawmaker’s claim that the caretaker government had sold America-abandoned weapons and equipment to other Iran and Palestine.

Michael McCall, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the US House of Representatives, made the claim in a recent interview with CNN

In response to the allegation, IEA spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted on Monday: “We strongly reject the claim … that the interim government has sold the weapons and equipment abandoned by US forces in Afghanistan, to other sources”.

Mujahid wrote the reality was that after the chaotic withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, the IEA had been in full control of the country.

All the weapons, equipment and vehicles had been moved to warehouses in different parts of the country, he explained, insisting no one was allowed to smuggle or sell even a single weapon.

The spokesman said: “This kind of propaganda is a conspiracy of tension seekers, who cannot tolerate the ongoing stability in Afghanistan and are spreading propaganda against it.”

On Sunday, McCaul alleged IEA was selling off weapons abandoned by US troops at the Bagram military base. He said arms worth over $7 billion had been left behind on the sprawling base in Parwan province.
