Rival families reconcile after 35 years of enmity in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Two rival families reconciled and ended their 35 year old enmity after mediation of tribal elders in Nahrin district of northern Baghlan province.

Sheikh Sardar Wali, a tribal elder of Lakankhel tribe in the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two families of Lakankhel tribe had been locked in enmity over a piece of land for 35 years.

He said four people from one side and two from another side had been killed during the period.

He added after hectic efforts of tribal elders and governmental officials, the two families reconciled and the family which lost four persons was given 6.3 million afghanis by the rival family.

Meanwhile, Wali Jan, a resident of Lakankhelo village, told Pajhwok Afghan News that his paternal cousins Nazeer Gul and Anar Gul had enmity with their maternal uncle for 35 years.

He said his cousins had killed their uncle and the family of the victim took revenge by killing four family members of Nazeer Gul and Anar Gul in the village mosque.

The tribal elders asked the people to stop enmities and live in peace with each other.

Baghlan police chief Mullah Jan Mohammad Hamza on the occasion said tribal elders and religious scholars should cooperate with the government in resolving such conflicts.

He said efforts were being made to address enmities with thte help of tribal elders and religious scholars.

Several enmities were recently turned into friendship as a result of efforts of tribal elders and religious scholars in other provinces as well.
