2 narcotics producing factories destroyed in Kandahar

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Security forces destroyed two narcotics producing factories in Khakrez and Maiwand districts of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.

Hafiz Sabir, Kandahar police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces seized and torched 2,465 kilograms of ephedra plant yesterday afternoon in Khakrez and Maiwand districts.

Sabir did not provide more details, but said security forces had arrested ten individuals in connection with the factories. The detainees will be referred to judicial organs after investigations.

During the operations, 12 barrels of other substances used in making drugs were also confiscated, he added.

The government has banned cultivation, production and trafficking of narcotics in the country.
