PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Warring tribes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram tribal region have agreed on a year-long cessation of hostilities, says a provincial government official.
The tribes allowed a government-appointed panel to address their long-running land dispute, Dawn quoted the official as saying on Thursday.
The Home and Tribal Affairs Department official claimed the rival tribes had vacated positions on high grounds in 98 percent of sensitive areas.
The unnamed official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the newspaper: “The military has now moved in and has occupied the vacated positions.”
Last week, fierce fighting erupted between residents of Dandar Sehra and Boshehra areas. The clashes later spread to Khar Kallay, Baleshkhel, Pewar, Gidu, Teri Mengal, Karman Para Chamkani, Maqbal and Kunj Alizai localities.
At least 13 people have so far been killed and 92 others wounded in the clashes. The land commission members will start work after being given permission.
