PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Participants of the Pak-Afghan Dialogue on ‘Regional stability and geo-economic dynamics’ have urged the reopening of girls’ schools across Afghanistan.
The Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) arranged the two-day event in collaboration with its Afghan partner Organisation for Economic Studies and Peace.
The closure of girls’ schools had negatively impacted the lives of Afghan women, the speakers claimed, calling for the caretaker government in Kabul to uphold their right to education.
They also called for lifting the ban on Afghan women’s employment and participation in the workforce. The restrictions were impeding the progress of Afghan society, the speakers argued.
Muzammil Shinwari, OESP’s executive director who moderated the discussion, said Afghanistan’s strides towards peace had helped boost trade relations and collaboration with regional partners.
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Harmony Talha Mahmood called for Islamabad and Kabul to pursue shared socio-economic and political development goals.
Imtiaz Gul, executive director of CRSS, underlined in his opening remarks the need for addressing humanitarian issues and upholding human and political rights in Afghanistan.
