JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least seven people have been injured as a result of a clash between cousins over land ownership in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
The incident took place in Chaparhar district after an exchange of harsh words between the parties over land ownership. Several individuals from both sides have been arrested.
Police spokesman Abdul Basir Zabuli told Pajhwok Afghan News the armed clash occurred between the families of Izzatullah and Rahmatullah in Turko village, where seven people were injured.
According to him, security forces rushed to the area and evacuated the injured to the district clinic.
He added the detainees were handed over to the crime-control department after being administered first aid.
Anwar Khan, a resident of the area, said the two families had a long-running land dispute.
If residents and security officials had not intervened, he believed, many people would have been killed in the clash.
