JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on a water supply project worth seven million afghanis in the Hesarak district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Director of Information and Culture Sidiqullah Qureshi Badloon told Pajhwok Afghan News the project was being funded by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
The water supply scheme was launched in the Raghaa village of the district, he said, adding the reconstruction of Raghaa and Lahorkhel canals and building of three dams and a retaining wall were part of the project.
According to Quraishi, the project costing about seven million afghanis will provide employment opportunities for 190 people.
Malik Awal Khan, a tribal leader, complained the district had been insecure and no attention was paid to it over the past 20 years. Currently, he claimed, the security situation had improved. Reconstruction work there should be accelerated, he demanded.
