KABUL (Pajhwok): The General Directorate of Traffic on Wednesday said it was installing traffic lights in Kabul and first-tier provinces at a cost of 40 million afghanis.
General Directorate of Traffic department head Najatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News that the signals’ installation process had been started in Kabul and the preliminary work had been completed.
He said the first steps of installing traffic lights were currently underway in the first-tier provinces of the country.
He said the project to install traffic lights had been awarded to the private sector based on a contract worth 40 million afghanis and the project would be completed in five months.
Earlier, Herat Traffic Superintendent Ghulam Nabi Farkhi told Pajhwok that traffic lights were needed at 25 intersections in the province.
He said currently traffic lights were being installed at 9 intersections and the installation of traffic lights at six intersections had been completed.
