PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistan will play their first group-stage match against Bangladesh in the 2023 Asia Cup, which will be played from August 30 to September 17.
The national team will meet Bangladesh on September 3 in Lahore, according to the tournament’s schedule unveiled by the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf.
In their second encounter of Asia Cup, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Afghan will take on Sri Lanka at the same venue on September 5.
In the opener of the 19-day competition, which will be played in the 50-overs format, Pakistan would play Nepal in Multan, the PCB chairman said late on Wednesday.
Six teams, participants in Asia Cup, have been divided into two groups. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A while Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are placed in Group B.
In the hybrid-model event, Pakistan will host four matches at two venues. The remaining games will be played Sri Lanka.
The India-Pakistan, slated for September 2 in Kandy, will be the highlight of the tournament. The final will be played on September 17 in Colombo.
