2 killed in Paktia flash floods

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least two persons have been killed after flash flooding from seasonal rains hit Syed Karam and Mirzaka districts of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.

AmanullahAman, head of Natural Disaster Management for Paktia province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two people died in flash floods in Syed Karam and Mirzaka district on Monday night.

He said: “Last night flash floods killed one person in Mirzaka district and a four-year child died after a wall of his house collapsed on him in Syed Karam district.”

He did not provide exact figures for the damage, but said dozens of houses were partially and completely destroyed and crops on hundreds of acres land washed away.

Recent flash floods have caused huge life and financial losses to the people across the country.

According to State Ministry for Natural Disasters  Management, about 27 people have been killed, 17 wounded and 400 houses partially or completely damaged and crops on thousands of acres farmland destroyed in recent flash floods in provincial capital MaidanShahr, Jalrez, Chak, Syedabad, Nirkh and Jaghatu districts of Maidan Wardak province.
