KABUL (Pajhwok): Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) paid an unofficial visit to Indonesia this month, says the foreign ministry in Jakarta.
AFP quoted Indonesian foreign ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah as saying: “My understanding is that they were in Jakarta informally for internal matters with the Afghanistan mission here.”
On July 14, Afghan Foreign Ministry’s deputy spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad tweeted that one of the government’s top diplomats led a delegation to the most populous Muslim country.
He said: “The delegation held useful meetings and discussions with some scholars, politicians and businessmen in Indonesia for strengthening bilateral political and economic relations.”
On the other hand, Faizasyah insisted no formal talks had taken place between Afghan and Indonesian government officials.
During the trip, Ahmad tweeted that IEA representatives met diplomats from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Singapore in Jakarta.
Indonesia, which has not recognised the caretaker Afghan government, reopened its embassy in Kabul last year.
