ATLANTA (Pajhwok): US state department delegation convened a significant meeting with officials of five central Asian countries on Afghanistan in Astana.
US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West tweeted that in this meeting US special envoy for human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri, was also present.
“Met with colleagues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan for the #C5PlusUS session on Afghanistan in Astana to discuss our joint support of the Afghan people.” He added.
During the session, discussions centered around the “joint support of the Afghan people,” as stated in a tweet by Thomas West
Earlier In a statement, the State Department said: “Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights Rina Amiri will travel to Astana, Kazakhstan, and Doha on July 26-31.”
The statement added: “While in Astana, they will meet with colleagues from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan for a C5+1 Special Session on Afghanistan.”
The US special envoys would also meet civil society members on ways of advancing women’s economic empowerment in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
In Doha, the West-led team will also meet a delegation of the caretaker government and technocratic professionals from key Afghan ministries to discuss critical interests in Afghanistan.
