KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): About 120 street lights have been installed at a cost of 20 million afghanis on roads in the capital of southeastern Khost province.

The installation of the lights took six months to complete and were put into service last night, local officials said.

Maulvi Mahboob Shah Qant, Khost deputy governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News the lights illuminated roads of the city and enabled easy movement by citizens.

He said the provincial administration was trying to implement more such schemes in order to beautify the city and provide facilities to citizens.

Meanwhile, residents of Khost city were also happy with the installation of the lights.

Khalid Rahman, a resident of Khost city, told Pajhwok similar lights should be installed on the remaining roads.

Abdullah, another resident of Khost city, told Pajhwok that lighting the city would help prevent many illegal acts like robbery.

He urged the government to implement more similar projects in the city.

On the other hand, Khost mayor Qari Bismillah Bilal told Pajhwok that six other different schemes were underway and would be completed in near future.

He did not reveal the cost of the schemes, but said the schemes would add beauty to the city and facilitate shopkeepers and residents.
