KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Thursday listed destruction of 644 drug producing factories, preventing 2.5 million dollars from being smuggled abroad, arresting 190 human traffickers and collecting 8.4 billion afghanis in revenue as its last year’s key achievements.
MoI officials presented the ministry’s last year performance report today at the Government and Media Information Center (GMIC) as part of the accountability program.
Security, smuggling and Crimes
Deputy Interior Minister Maulvi Abdullah Mukhtar said a total of 20,322 criminal incidents happened during 21 months of the Islamic Emirate government while 29,669 such incidents were recorded during the same period of the previous government.
Mukhtar said in the last one year, 1,590 security cameras were installed at sensitive places to ensure security.
He said last year, police recovered 11,640 heavy and light weapons, more than three million bullets and shells, 1,017 mines and hand grenades, 484 kilograms of explosives, three explosive vests, four explosive vests’ devices, three satellites, 7714 mobile phone sets, 9498 illegal SIM cards, 88 passports and 12 fake visas, 16 antiquities, 3790 kilograms of precious stones, 725000 fake afghani banknotes, an air balloon and other military equipment.
According to him, also last year, security forces prevented the smuggling of 2.5 million US dollars, 33,000 pounds, about 16,000 euros, about 70,000 dinars, about 363,000 dirhams, 393,000 Saudi Riyals, 150,000 Turkish liras, more than 13 million Pakistani rupees, more than 16 kilograms of gold and seven statues.
He said that last year, 12,283 criminal cases were registered in the country and 17,217 suspects were arrested in connection with the crimes and 1,195 suspects remained at large.
Interior Ministry spokesman Mufti Abdul Matin Qani said 106 cases of kidnappings took place last year and 190 suspects were arrested in connection with the incidents and 44 citizens were rescued from their clutches.
He said 13 kidnappers were killed in clashes with police and six kidnapped people were killed by their kidnappers.
Annual revenue and budget
The MoI collected 8.47 billion afghanis in revenue from passports, visas, traffic services, public protection services, communication equipment fees, weapons licenses, armored vehicle licenses and other services.
According to the annual report, the MoI received 42.9 million afghanis budget for fiscal year 1401, of which 98 percent has been spent.
The ministry saved 2.7 billion afghanis in contracts.
The fight against drugs
The MoI report said police detected and confiscated 2282 tons of different narcotics and 620530 tablets K last year, destroyed 644 drugs processing, alcohol and other drugs making factories.
Border police seized 108kg of drugs at international airports and arrested 45 people in connection with the drugs last year.
The report said 11253 hectors of land was cleared of poppies last year, when a 5000-bed rehabilitation center for drug addicts was established.
MoI plans to create 40 new districts
MoI officials said the boundaries of 27 districts previously approved had been determined.
They said about 100 new villages have been built and considering people’s regional situation, 40 new districts will be created to provide services to the local populations.
