KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Afghanistan says insufficient funding will result in discontinuation of approximately 2800 community-based classes by August and 3300 by October 2023.
OCHA wrote on its twitter page that the discontinuation of the local classes will impact 166,220 children, 52% of whom are girls.
The caretaker government of Afghanistan has not yet said anything in this regard.
However, the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) on 14th of May in a tweet said UNICEF wanted to increase the number of local classes to 21,000 by the end of 2023.
UNICEF on 22nd of May tweeted that it has been providing education facilities to 50,000 students both boys and girls through local classes across the country.
The fund said it has established 17,600 local classes and support them across the country.
