KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan athletes won 22 medals in 49 international competitions during the past one year, the National Olympic and Physical Education Committee said on Sunday.
The committee presented its one-year report to the media at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC).
Abdul Wadod Haqqani, director of the committee, said they organized 586 competitions in the country and Afghan athletes participated in 49 foreign competitions during the past one year.
He said the Afghan players won two gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals.
He added that the National Olympic and Sports General Committee had formed a 12-member supreme council to solve major sports issues.
A finance and foreign relations commission has also been formed to attract and provide financial opportunities and strengthen foreign relations.
According to Haqqani, last year volleyball, football, futsal and Buzkashi leagues were successfully held in Kabul.
The Olympic Committee evaluated six cases of violations last year and as a result eight people were warned and 10 others expelled.
