SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Education Department officials in northern Sar-i-Pul province say more than 100 out of 411 schools in the province have no buildings and their students attend classes under the open sky.
Maulvi Mohammad Rohani, director of education, told Pajhwok Afghan News that UNICEF provincial office had donated 90 tents to schools whose students attended lessons without proper classrooms.
The tents worth more than 4.5 million afghanis have a good quality and are resistant to heat and cold and their installation would unable students to feel comfortable.
Rahmani praised the UNICEF office for supporting education by providing books, stationery, drinking water and constructing buildings for schools.
He said there were a total of 411 schools in the province and 101 of them lacked buildings and tents were distributed to 31 schools today.
Students who used to study in the open expressed their satisfaction with the installation of tents in their schools.
Akbar, one of the students of Marafet elementary school in Sayad district, said: “We would face many problems in the open air in summer and winter and we could not study properly. Now we are happy that a tent has been provided for our school.”
Salim, another student of Marafet primary school in Sayad district, said: "We would sweat in hot weather and shiver when get cold and we were unable to study properly. We thank those who provided the tents to our school.”
