FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly 2000 families in Khost area of Khaki Safid district of western Farah province do not have access to telecommunication services, an official said on Wednesday.

Farah Telecommunications and Information Technology director Abdul Majeed Abuzar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Khost region of Khaki Safid district, which is located in the middle of mountains, has been deprived of telecom facilities.

However, he said soon people in all areas of Farah would have access to telecommunication services.

He said 15 new sites had been approved for Farah, which included the Khost region.

Information and Culture director Maulvi Abdul Hai Sabawon said about 2,000 families lived in Khost region and they were deprived of telecommunication services.

Meanwhile, the residents of Khost region also urged the government to provide them with telecom facilities.

Ghaosuddin, a resident, told Pajhwok: “Our people do not have access to telecommunication services and we are facing serious problems in this regard.”

Ghaosuddin said the people had to travel for an hour on a motorcycle to communicate with their relatives.

Abdul Ahad, another resident, said they lived in a mountainous area where no communication network was working.

According to officials, Khost region is 80 kilometers away from Farah city and 30 kilometers from the center of Khak Safid district.
