KABUL (Pajhwok): In control of entire Afghanistan, the interim government is trying to overcome the economic crisis inherited from the previous regimes, says the Russian ambassador.
In an interview released on Wednesday, Dmitry Zhirnov acknowledged the IEA had also succeeded in the fight against the Islamic State besides planning to banish the drug industry.
He told TASS news agency Russia was working with its partners to ensure the US and its allies shoulder the burden of rebuilding Afghanistan’s economy.
Moscow has been supporting the Afghan people with humanitarian aid since the IEA takeover two years ago, said the envoy, who saw no alternative to IEA.
Zhirnov claimed Russian grain and fuel supplies had mitigated the impact of natural disasters and winter cold for the Afghans.
He pointed out: “Every year, several hundred scholarships are provided to Afghans for free education in Russian universities in socially important professions.
Russia was patiently working bilaterally with Kabul and within the Moscow Format on Afghanistan, the ambassador explained.
He revealed Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey and Indonesia had also been invited to the fifth meeting on Afghanistan, slated for September 29.
