SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Fifteen men and 2 women have been handed over punishment publicly in northern Sar-i-Pul province for the crimes they had committed, according to a media reports said on Thursday.

State run Bakhtar News Agency quoted from Maulavi Mohammad Yar Mohammad Omari the chief justice of Sar-i-Pul High Court that all the 17 convicts (15 men, 2 women) were punished publicly yesterday afternoon in provincial sports stadium.

The source said that these individuals were convicted for crimes such as adultery, escape from house, sodomy, drugs smuggling and thefts.

Sar-i-Pul High Court stated that the reason for the execution of the verdict in public was setting an example to others and said that this act will help in the reduction of crimes in the society.
