PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Poppy reduction in Afghanistan has declined by 90 percent, claims the war-torn country’s ambassador to Pakistan.
Simultaneously, Sardar Ahmad Shakib said, the interim government was focused on rehabilitating drug addicts pursuing a vocational programme for them.
Addressing a webinar at the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISS).in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said IEA’s economic achievements included combating food insecurity and poverty.
The diplomat said the caretaker government had been able to reduce inflation from 18% to 9% and bolster the Afghan currency against the US dollar.
IEA was pursuing constructive diplomatic engagement and high-level meetings with representatives of different countries and international organisations, the envoy added.
Ex-Afghan minister of mines Nargis Nehan underlined the need for a broad-based government in the country and respect for women’s rights.
