KABUL (Pajhwok): A delegation led by acting director of Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) on Monday left for Iran to discuss with Iranian officials accelerating transfer of goods through railroads and increasing bilateral cooperation on railways.
The Khawaf-Herat railway track is 225 kilometres long and is constructed on the Afghan and Iranian soil. Two phases of the track which is 76 kilometres long has been already constructed from Iran’s Khawaf to Shamtegh border area and is ready for service. The 62-kilometre track from Shamtegh to the border of Afghanistan has been 95 percent completed.
The ARA wrote on its X handle, ARA head Mullah Bakht Rahman Sharafat and his delegation left Kabul for Iran on official invitation of that country’s railway authority.
The source wrote about the purpose of this trip: “In this trip, it is scheduled to discuss speeding up transfers through the third section of the Khawaf-Herat railway, temporary technical training to ARA employees and bilateral cooperation and meetings with different government officials.”
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the first cargo train loaded with commercial goods arrived at Rawzanak Train Station in western Herat province from Iran on May 9.
