Rashid denies discrimination in giving government jobs

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A number of youth in southeastern Paktia province on Tuesday criticized the acting government for not giving jobs to people other than those associated with the Islamic Emirate, a claim rejected by officials.

About 400 youth attended a seminar organized by the provincial Information and Culture department titled “opportunities for bright future of youth” in Gardez, the provincial capital.

One of the participants, Juma Noor Noori said young people who had newly graduated from universities were facing an unknown fate because they were denied government jobs.

“Young people with higher education and talent in special fields should be given jobs without any discrimination to benefit from their knowledge and talent.”

He said the lack of jobs had forced many young people to migrate to other countries and if the situation persisted, the brain drain would continue.

Niaz Mohammad Ahmadi, another participant of the seminar, said the youth in Paktia had been paid no attention in many areas and the government should help them by giving them jobs

“In the past two years, nothing was done for the youth of Paktia. No special project or program for the youth could be seen, but in other provinces some programs are implemented for young people.”

He added that vocational training programs, special computer and other science programs should be launched for the youth and efforts should be made to overcome youth joblessness.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy information and culture minister for youth affairs Qari Muhammad Yunus Rashid said the demands and suggestions of the youths were reasonable and solution would be found to them.

He said the government was not preventing anyone from and was committing no discrimination in hiring people. “The government’s policy is all people see themselves in the system”.

Rashind the Islamic Emirate’s rule was only two years old facing many problems and issues, but some issues had been solved and others would be solved gradually.

He said the youth of Paktia would be provided with vocational and educational training in various fields. He said an equipped computer lab was being established where the youth would study for free.

He also asked the youth to avoid going abroad because the country’s economic situation was improving and they would be provided with jobs.
