Northern Highway to be closed due to Salang tunnel repair works

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Works says the Northern Highway will be closed for all types of traffic after 11 days until completion of concrete works inside Salang Tunnel.

Currently, reconstruction and repair work of an 80-km portion of the Salang highway has been ongoing. Therefore, vehicular movement is allowed only at night — one night from north to south and the next night from south to north.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, Ministry of Public Works spokesman, told Pajhwok that to complete concrete works inside the tunnel, the highway will be closed 11 days after for all kinds of traffic until completion of the work.

Haqshanas said all citizens, businessmen and motorists should fulfill their requirements within 11 days.

He said exact period of the road’s closure was not known, but the concrete works could take more than a month.
