KABUL (Pajhwok): Religious scholars and tribal leaders held a gathering in Kabul on Wednesday and asked the caretaker government to interact with the world keeping in view Sharia, independence and contemporary demands.

Hundreds of religious scholars, tribal elders and senior government officials attended the meeting held at the Loya Jirga tent in Kabul.

Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on X: “Kabul is hosting a huge meeting of scholars and elders today with focus on national unity, development and more harmony between the nation and the system.”

Media people were not invited to the meeting, but the state-run Bakhtar news agency on its page said the meeting participants asked the Islamic Emirate to interact with the world as per Islamic Sharia, independence and the status of Afghanistan.

They said the government should use necessary policy for interaction with the international community keeping in mind national interests and present-day demands.

In their resolution, the meeting participants asked the international community to interact with the new Afghan rulers by realizing the ground realities of Afghanistan in a reasonable and responsible manner in order to create necessary understanding and full formal interaction between the two sides.

They praised the Islamic Emirate’s economic-centric foreign policy that further strengthened economic relations with neighbors and countries in the region in order to increase facilities for exports and imports and find good market for Afghan products.

They also asked the Islamic Emirate to relax the laws and governance for investment, mining and construction in cities and remove obstacles in this regard to expedite the processes and increase job opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, acting Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi said: “If history is any guide, giving a hand to oppressors and enemies of the country and seeking their help benefitted no one.”

He said foreigners could not rebuild the country, something the Afghans themselves had to do.

Acting Minister of Interior Sirajuddin Haqqani also said: “The invaders were defeated following hunge sacrifices of the countrymen during the jihadi era. Now is the time for everyone to stand with the Islamic Emirate and support it.”

He added weakening Afghanistan was in no one’s interest and promises had been made and assurances held out that the world would not support armed opposition in Afghanistan.

Higher Education Minister Maulvi Nada Mohammad Nadeem said consulting scholars and taking their advice was necessary for a successful system.

He asked the scholars to fulfill their responsibility towards serving the holy religion of Islam and to protect and support the system and to share their advice with the authorities.

Kabul governor Sheikh Mohammad Qasim Khalid said scholars historically ruled Afghanistan and today the leadership was in the hands of scholars as well.

He said an Islamic system was in place all over Afghanistan and security had been established in the entire geography of the country.
