‘Unemployment forces youth to leave country’

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Some youth in western Herat province have linked growing migration of educated people with unemployment despite improves security nationwide.

Ahmad Zahir Nab, one of the Herat Youth, told Pajhwok Afghan News the only concern of educated people in the country was unemployment, adding that there was no work opportunity available to them in the country.

“Unemployment forced youth and professional individuals to leave the country and now youth started believing that government considered education and professional people in society as common people,” he said.

Nab said unemployment forced youth to choose illegal means for migration and go to the neighbouring and other countries to earn livelihood.

Ahmad, another Herat youth, said currently youth and professional individuals are at home and there is no work opportunities for them.

He said it was government responsibility to absorb professional and qualified individuals in the government posts and get full advantage of their knowledge in promoting the capacity and strength of the government system.

Social Affairs experts in Herat also believed that youth was the most effective and important segment of the society and stressed over the generation for work opportunities for them.

Social Affairs Expert Abdul Qayyoum Waziri said the provision of jobs opportunities for youth helped improve security and economic condition and it has far reaching positive impact on the society.

Waziri said youth is the key segment of society and they direly need government support. He deplored that professional and qualified individuals are forced to resign or quit their jobs due to some reasons and this would cause a huge damage to the system in the future.

Governor Spokesperson Nisar Ahmad Elyas said earlier around 300 factories were active in the industrial park of Herat City but now around 650 factories are functional and most people have be able to get working opportunity.

Elyas said government was trying to generate more working opportunities for youth in the province.
