TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A 25-kilometer portion of the Uruzgan-Kandahar highway is being reconstructed at a cost of 21 million afghanis.
Uruzgan governor Maulvi Mohammad Ali Jan Ahmad, who inaugurated the reconstruction work, said the project would solve people’s problems.
He added this year the Ministry of Public Works also repaired the highway from Tirinkot to Deh Rawood and Charchino districts.
He said a committee will be formed for better monitoring of the reconstruction work.
The governor assured that asphalting of the remaining parts of the highway will be started soon.
Maulvi Adam Jan Nomani, director of public works, said the 25km portion from Tirinkot gate to Wish area of Kandahar will be basically repaired and restored within three months.
He said the project would cost 21m afs to be paid by the Ministry of Public Works.
He added construction of four culverts and 400 meters of retaining walls was part of the project.
Residents of Uruzgan are happy with reconstruction of the Uruzgan-Kandahar highway.
Mohammad Amin, a resident of Tirinkot and a driver, told Pajhwok Afghan News his car often developed faults due to the bad condition of the highway that gave passengers a bumpy ride.
He asked the officials concerned to monitor the contractor’s work to ensure its good quality.
The Uruzgan-Kandahar highway is about 150 kilometers long and two of its three parts have been asphalted years ago, but one part is still damaged and uneven.
