FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Joint markets on the border with Tajikistan have been reopened after three years of closure due to the outbreak of Covid-19, an official said on Saturday.
Information and Cultural Affairs Director Maazuddin Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News four joint markets are situated on the border with Tajikistan in Ashkashim, Shaghnan, Nasi and Khawahan districts, these markets were official reopened today (Saturday) by local officials.
He said businessmen could bring their goods and services one day --- on Saturday --- in a week and people could purchase things.
He added that other permitted goods and local handicrafts will be sold in these markets, but according to the laws of the Islamic Emirate, the entry of alcoholic and narcotic substances and other prohibited substances into the market will be prevented by the officials of both sides.
He said simultaneously with the reopening of the joint markets, work opportunities will be provided to hundreds of people in the districts of Ashkashim, Shagnan, Nesi, and Phankar, and then families will be able to sell their handicrafts, agricultural products.
Ahmadi said: “The opening of these joint markets is a positive step that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan had assured the countries of the region and the world that there would be no threat from the territory of Afghanistan to any neighboring country, the region or the world, and the Islamic Emirate has been successful in this regard, and today it has strengthened its commercial relations with the world..”
