PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A protest by traders in Pakistan’s Waziristan tribal district for the reopening of the Angoor Adda crossing has entered the ninth day.
Leaders of the South Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, trade, fresh fruit and transport unions have been demanding the reopening of the route.
Business activities had come to a halt, inflicting losses on traders, local residents and the national exchequer, said a protestor.
Taj Muhammad Wazir accused local authorities of failing to keep their promise to speed up the clearance of empty vehicles and reopen the crossing.
At least 2,000 people had been rendered unemployed due to lack of facilities at the Angoor Adda Gate, the protesters told journalists.
If their problems were not resolved immediately, they would launch a nationwide protest, warned South Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Saifur Rahman Wazir.
