PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan have advanced to the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup as their high-voltage encounter against arch-rival India was rained off in Kandy.
Each side got a point each on Saturday when showers continued. Opting to bat first in the highly-anticipated encounter, India somehow completed their inning.
Despite suffering early shocks, India managed to post a 266-run total, with Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya hitting much-needed fifties.
In challenging circumstances, Pandya scored 87 off 90 and Kishan 82 off 81to forge a 138-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Pakistani pacers, living up to their reputation, claimed all 10 wickets as Shaheen Afridi finished with four, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah three each.
As a result of rain, the Pakistan innings did not take place and the match had to be abandoned. The giants will meet again on September 10 if India beat Nepal tomorrow (Monday).
Dissatisfied with the outcome, the Pakistan Cricket Board said rain acted as the “spoilsport” in the second innings of the game.
