ATLANTA (Pajhwok): A 27-year old former Afghan Air Force pilot, Syed Habib Hashami, has passed away in the United States.

Syed Hikmat Hashami, one of his family member wrote on his Facebook account that he had immigrated to United States after the collapse of the previous government along with other Afghans.

He said the ex-pilot suffered a stroke while on duty in the US and died as a result. The Afghan community in Washington also confirmed his death.

The Afghans living in Washington, meanwhile, have started collecting donations for transporting the ex-pilot’s body to Afghanistan.

On the other hand, social media reports said Hashami, living in the Skokie city of Illinois, died on Tuesday.

His relatives say Hashami had trained as a pilot in the United Arab Emirates in the hope of serving his homeland.
