KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) announced on Tuesday referring 48 children with congenital heart defects (CHDs) for treatment and surgeries to Kabul-based hospitals.
ARCS spokesman Erfanullah Sharafzoi wrote on his X handle that they had so far introduced 1,771 children with CHD problems to different local hospitals over the past 14 months.
Sharafzoi said nearly 1,500 of those children had been treated. Some of them have joined their families while others are still under treatment.
The cost of the children’s treatment was paid by ARCS, Sharafzoi added.
About 12,000 children with CHD issues are currently registered with ARCS. Some others are still waiting for their turn to get registered.
