KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A primary court in southern Kandahar province has sentenced a man to death as qisas (retribution) for murder and seven other people to various jail terms and lashes.
Officials say the eight individuals had been arrested for various crimes in Spin Boldak district and were convicted by the primary court during a public trial.
Spin Boldak district press official Hafiz Ali Mohammad Haqmal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the eight people were sentenced yesterday after their crimes were proven.
He said they were sentenced on Monday by Judge Mufti Jalaluddin in the presence of elders and ordinary people and Spin Boldak district chief Haji Bashir.
He said Idrees who had murdered a person was sentenced to qisas (retribution) and four armed robbers were sentenced to 30 lashes and one year each in prison.
He said a couple was sentenced to one year in jail for elopement.
“The last person, Mohammad Arif, son of Mohammad Zarif, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for smuggling people across the border and mistreating them.”
