BAMYAN (Pajhwok): After a Pajhwok Afghan News report about lack of healthcare facilities in Waras and Panjab districts of central Bamyan province, three well-equipped health centers are established in the districts.
The Pajhwok report on July 22 quoted residents of Waras district as saying they lacked access to quality health services. The residents had said some patients passed away while traveling to faraway health centers.
Mohammad Jamal Alawi, an official in the Public Health Department of Bamyan, said recently three basic health centers (BHC) were established in Waras and Panjab districts.
The newly established and well-equipped health clinics are ready to provide services to the people in Khar Qul and Tagab areas of Panjab district and Patab Joy area of Waras district.
Alawi said two more maternity health centers supported by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in some remote areas were upgraded to BHC.
The BHCs are established in areas with population of more than 5,000 people and their staff includes a nurse, a midwife, two vaccinators and two guards.
Mohammad Hasan, a resident of Surkh Joy of Waras district, said Surkh Joy was a remote and insolated area and its residents had no access to proper health services.
He said local residents had to walk for four hours to reach a health center and now their problem had been resolved with the establishment of the new health centers.
