Afghan women, girls’ rights issue part of UNGA agenda: Guterres

KABUL (Pajhwok): UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that women and girls rights issue in Afghanistan will be part of the upcoming UN General Assembly (UNGA) meeting agenda.

Addressing reporters prior to the seventy-eighth session of the UNGA, in New York, he said that  humanity faced huge challenges — from the worsening climate emergency to escalating conflicts, the global cost-of-living crisis, soaring inequalities and dramatic technological disruptions.

He added So, to bring our multipolar world together, we need strong, reformed multilateral institutions, anchored in the United Nations Charter and international law.  Today’s multilateral institutions that were created after the Second World War reflect the power and economic dynamics of that time, and so, they need reform.

When asked about humant rights situation in Afghanistan Guterres said: “the question of the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan is absolutely central to all concerns and will be one of the issues that will be very much in the agenda.”
