ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Ex-president Hamid Karzai and the US special representative for Afghanistan have discussed economic issues and intra-Afghan talks for sustainable peace and strengthening stability in the country.
According to a statement from Karzai’s office, the former president held talks with US Special Representative Thomas West via video conference.
It said the two sides discussed the economic situation in Afghanistan and agreed on the importance of assist ing farmer in terms of irrigation and alternative livelihoods.
The importance of education for girls and boys for the economic development and bright future of Afghanistan was also stressed.
Karzai reiterated his call for the US to cooperate on providing education for Afghan youth, the statement added.
Intra-Afghan talks for lasting peace and strengthening stability in country were also emphasised. They hoped the talks would be facilitated as soon as possible.
Karzai also appreciated America’s humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and stressed the imperative of its continuation.
