JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defense (MoD) is constructing a 20-kilometer road near the Durand Line in Goshta district of eastern Nangarhar province.

Officials of the 201 Khalid bin Waleed Military Corps in the east say the road is being constructed based on the demand of local residents.

Maulvi Wahidullah Mohammadi, 201 Khalid Bin Waleed Corps spokesman in the east, told Pajhwok the Ministry of Defense was constructing the road from its budget at the request of tribal elders of Salalah village.

He said there was no road in the area and as a result border forces and local residents were facing problems while traveling.

Without revealing the cost, he said, resources of the corps were mostly used in the road’s construction.

Local residents expressed happiness over the launch of work on the road.

Tribal elder Nawab Khan told Pajhwok that people were struggling with many problems due to the lack of road.

He said transferring patients to hospital was a big problem for local residents in the absence of the road. He said the road’s construction would resolve their many problems.

The Ministry of Defense has constructed a key bridge in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital.
