Rockslide shuts Kabul-Jalalabad highway

KABUL (Pajhwok): A mud and rock slide closed the Kabul-Jalalabad highway three kilometers away from the Kabul Gate area on Saturday night, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said on Sunday.

The ministry wrote on its X page that acting Public Works Minister Mullah Mohammad Isa Sani visited the area on Sunday morning.

It said: “As the rockslide continues, the minister directed the Kabul Public Works department to build an alternative route for traffic.

The Ministry of Public Works also asked engineering teams of the ministries of defense and interior to help in building alternative route as soon as possible to enable people to travel comfortably. The ministry said the mud and rocks that rolled down the mountain were being removed.

MoPW also asked people and drivers not to travel on the road until further notice.
